In 2018, the Los Angeles viola community lost our beloved colleague, teacher, and friend Laura Pearson. Laura performed regularly with orchestras including the LA Philharmonic and the South Bay Chamber Orchestra, and as a session player she recorded hundreds of scores for movies and television. In addition to her virtuosic artistry, Laura was treasured for her kindness and generous sprit. Laura taught at ViolaFest in 2017 and 2018 and her insightful, informative, and fun classes were an absolute favorite with ViolaFest participants.
In honor of her legacy as an artist and educator, the Southern California Viola Society has established a ViolaFest tuition scholarship fund for students who share Laura’s characteristics of hard work, curiosity, dedication, camaraderie, and love of the viola.
